Biography

Roots, musical journey, inspirations & passions

Born in Manchester to English mother and Nigerian father. Raised in Manchester, Hayfield and Glossop. (Respect to The Lift for bringing good music to my old home town.)
At 18 Lived in France for a year working as au pair. Fluent French speaker. Lead singer in legendary Glossop combo 'The Mambo's' for a couple of years. Studied Drama and French literature at The University of East Anglia. Performed in Bill Gallagher's plays 'Darkle' and 'Lickerish' at the Edinburgh Festival.

Moved to London to work for French speaking Theatre Company 'Bac to Bac' run by Nicky Ezer of Culture Promotions. Began working at Shaka dances and was around at the start of the Dub Club.
Acted as Tour manager Ijahman Levi on European tour. At the same time did theatre and television work with among others Bonnie Greer, Stewart Lee, The London Small Theatre Company and Theatre Centre. Plus backing vocals for the late, great Bim Sherman

Introduced by Nicky Ezer to Cod, Tench and Perch of Zion Train in 1991, sang with Zion Train until January 2006. Have also sung live or recorded with The Knights of the Occasional Table, Basti, Femi Kuti, Loop Guru, Extremadura, Maggie Nichols, The Ruts DC, Neil Sparkes and The Last Tribe (Trans-Global Underground side project), Soul Captain Band (Finland). Most recent sessions include Capri Sails, DJ Methodist Germander Speedwell and The Powersteppers.

Additional information:
Uncle was Fela Kuti� and was in Lagos when he was released after 2 years in prison and spent a legendary night at the Shrine celebrating.
Lives in West Wales with life partner Colin (Cod), Zion Train music creator and melodica player, with whom she has two children,� a son and a daughter.
